High Five to the Fierce Five
Updated: Oct 8, 2019

The sobriquet "Fierce Five" is deserving for so many reasons. Aside from the obvious gold medal winning that they did in the 2012 Olympics, there are darker and uglier reasons. The disgraced US team doctor Larry Nassar has been accused of sexually abusing EVERY member of the "Fierce Five" - which makes us sad beyond compare - which includes Jordan Weiber, Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, and Kyla Ross.

Kellogg's had an edge in signing Gabby Douglas for the cover of their cereal box, since the company was a sponsor of both the U.S. Olympics and USA Gymnastics. They were lucky to nab the glorious Gabby. We, of course, were sorry that she had to hear the news through the lips of former president of USA Gymnastics Steve Penny, whom we had been battling to change policy for years. This Kellogg's photo is from August of 2012. The Flairs gymnasts had been advocating for safer athlete protection policies for four years by this time.
We cannot believe how much you accomplished given the circumstances. Steve Penny is -- decidedly -- NOT magnificent, but you, Fierce Five, could not be more magnificent in our eyes.
